John O'Donohue, Ph.D.

John O'Donohue, Ph.D.

John O’Donohue, Ph.D., was a renowned Irish poet and philosopher. O’Donohue was a one-of-a-kind force of nature: a genius with words, a brilliant thinker, and a professional excavator of the soul. He studied English, philosophy, and theology at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth before earning a Ph.D. in philosophical theology from the University of Tubingen. A Catholic priest until 2000, O’Donohue retired from public priestly ministry and devoted himself full-time to his writing and to a more public life of integrity in action: speaking, advocating against social injustice, and inspiring meaningful, positive change in society.

Perhaps best-known for his international bestseller Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom, O’Donohue was also the author of To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings; Beauty: The Invisible Embrace; Eternal Echoes: Celtic Reflections on Our Yearning to Belong; Four Elements: Reflections on Nature; and Benedictus: A Book of Blessings. A celebrated poet, he published the collections of poetry Echoes of Memory and Conamara Blues. O’Donohue also recorded the Sounds True audio programs Anam Cara, Beauty: The Invisible Embrace, and Wisdom from the Celtic World.
