Let one of the greatest theologians in the history of Christianity be your spiritual guide.

St. Thomas Aquinas OP (1224-1274) towers in the history of Christian thought as a mystic, spiritual master, theologian, philosopher, teacher, and preacher. Along with St. Augustine, his synthesis of Christian teaching and exposition of the truth of the Catholic faith remains unsurpassed in Western Christianity.

Now, to make his core teachings accessible, we are delighted to bring you a remarkable professor, Fr. Donald Goergen, OP. Through 12 powerful audio conferences, you will explore the key themes of his thought, especially in his Summa Theologica. You will derive spiritual direction from his balanced way of thinking.

You will explore such insights of Aquinas’s thought as creation, the search for human happiness, the life of moral and intellectual virtues, the life of charity, Christ and the sacraments of the Church, and the life of the blessed in heaven.

Aquinas was an intellectually curious thinker unafraid to change his mind, a man of bold and innovative insights deeply committed

His theology flows as much from his life of prayer as it does from intellectual acumen. 6 reviews for St. Thomas Aquinas: Master Theologian and Your Spiritual Guide

  1. tk

    good introduction

I am just about finished with these cd’s. I never had a course in Aquinas, and, as a Catholic clergy, have always felt a little deficient in that regard. The positive outcome of listening to this course is that Aquinas isn’t as much a stranger as before. Necessarily, the course does not go into a lot of depth, but gives a good overview of the structure of his Summa Theologica and his arguments about the nature of faith, grace, human freedom.

  2. Stephen

An engaging and accessible introduction to St. Thomas Aquinas.

An engaging and accessible introduction to St. Thomas Aquinas, whose theology and metaphysics can be challenging to an ordinary layperson like me. The course presents good historical context and biographical information, then moves through the highlights of his theology in a way that leaves the listener feeling confidently prepared for further study of Aquinas, and with an appetite for such further study.

  3. Bob

great content but hard to follow

I would give this course 5 stars for content, but 1 or 2 for quality of presentation. The lecturer uses so many connective words and side comments that I had trouble following the content. I have had to listen to the course several times to be able to follow what the lecturer is saying. But I am glad I put in the time because I now have a better fundamental grasp of Aquinas.

  4. Edward R., IL

    Fall Survey: October 2016

The teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas are the teachings of the Church. Fr. Goergen is an excellent guide.

  5. Edward R., IL

    Winter Survey: January 2017

Father Goergen is a very knowledgeable teacher!

  6. Todd C., PA

    Winter Survey: January 2017

I especially appreciate the explanation of terms and concepts that are not necessarily made clear in the original texts, perhaps due to the expectation in the text of other previous knowledge.
