The History and the Theology of the Church Matters Today

Monsignor Magee presents a clear series of discussions on the Church as a universal sacrament. This talk covers both the history and the theology of the church.

The presentation is clear, and the pacing makes it easy to follow. Msgr. Magee does not talk down to his audience, but neither does his presentation go over one’s head. Nonetheless, given the many aspects of the topic, I have found it helpful, and enjoyable, to listen to the course over and over again.

The course covers the foreshadowing of the Church in the Old Testament. Msgr. Magee follows this by identifying indications in the New Testament of the establishment and early life of the Church. He then focuses on the significance of the structure of the Church and the ways in which the Church has been both united and divided over the centuries.

Each step along the way, Msgr. Magee explains why knowing the history and theology of the Church helps one to appreciate the blessings and understand the challenges facing the Church today.
